The nursery also benefits from a large outdoor space including a garden area and playground with fixed play equipment which has been currently refurbishment.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT
It is a key aim of Glenfield Pre-Five Centre that parents and staff work together to support the children's learning and development. This partnership begins as soon as your child is allocated a place. Parents and staff share information about children, and parents views and ideas about the service are welcomed and valued. There is also emphasis placed on offering a range of opportunities for parents to get involved in the activities of the nursery. Recent examples include:

Parents' Business Meetings (now Glenfield Parents' Group)
Parents' Fundraising Group
Coping with Difficult Behaviour Group
Curriculum Evening (October)
Early Literacy and Numeracy Evening (February)
Parent/Keyworker Reporting Meetings
Basic Computer Training
Volunteering at Horse Riding for the Disabled
Support Group for parents of children with Additional Support Needs
Involvement in Working Groups
Sure Start activities
NURSERY ENROLMENT
All nursery places are allocated according to Renfrewshire Council Admission Policy and nursery staff will be happy to explain how this policy operates when you apply for a place. When the admissions panel allocate places in a nursery, parents are informed by letter. Parents are then invited to visit the nursery to discuss start dates and make arrangements for the home visit and settling in period.

Enrolment meetings are held throughout the year. Parents and children are invited to visit the nursery to meet staff and arrange a start date. All new children are offered a home visit from a member of the nursery management team and the child's keyworker. Our home visiting programme supports the transition from home to nursery. There is a settling in period for all children. Initially, children stay for a short period gradually extending their time until they become confident in the nursery environment. Staff and parents work together to ensure that children feel happy and secure in the nursery environment.
NURSERY UNIFORM
In nursery the children participate in a range of activities e.g. painting, baking, water play, etc., although aprons are provided parents can order nursery poloshirts and sweatshirts from the nursery office. Please put your child's name on clothing to identify items. Prices: £5.95 (poloshirt) and £6.95 (sweatshirt) in red, yellow and green.
NURSERY PROGRAMME
The nursery programme for learning reflects the four capacities of the Scottish Executive's "Curriculum for Excellence' - successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors and the 3 R's of 'Birth to 3' - respect, responsive care and relationships. In each playroom activities and opportunities are offered to support and extend the children's learning. Areas within the playrooms are carefully organised to encourage the children to explore and investigate at their own pace. Children are encouraged to develop their organisational skills which help them to choose materials, set small targets, to persevere with a task and to tidy away afterwards. The focus on such organisational skills is particularly important for children with additional support needs. Activities offered encourage children to actively explore, use their senses, to ask questions and to problem-solve by estimating, guessing, experimenting, reasoning and finding practical solutions. Our play based curriculum is designed to promote breadth, depth and challenge in learning over the eight key areas identified in Curriculum for Excellence. Through active learning children are engaged and challenged in their thinking and involved in planning for their own learning. Key areas are:

Health & Wellbeing
Literacy & English
Numeracy & Mathematics
Expressive Arts
Religious & Moral
Science
Social Studies
Technologies

The children are encouraged to follow the 'Golden Rules'.

Nursery staff and parents regularly audit the effectiveness of the nursery curriculum and overall quality of service using the 'Child at the Centre'. H.M.I.E. and Care Commission also conduct regular inspections and report on the quality of education and care within the Centre.

Active Learning Experiences
Children and staff use mind mapping techniques to ensure children's ideas and interests are recorded and used to plan active learning experiences.
